NEW DISTRICT TARTANS

When we published the Compendium of District Tartans in December of 2004, with well over 450 tartans included, we ended the introduction with the following prophetic statement:

What we present in this volume is meant to be a comprehensive (though not definitive) collection of district tartans, new and old. However, if interest in tartan continues to be as popular as it has been in the past, we have no doubts that this list will soon be outdated, as more district tartans are developed. We consider this a welcome problem to have!

The following tartans have been designed or recorded since the publication of our book.

• Forfar district designed by Arthur Mackie in March 2004 for Strathmore Woolens

• Menez Du (French district) for the central region of Brittany.  Click here for a page (in French) promoting the tartan.

• Italian National (different from the Italian tartan) designed by Michael Lemetti, and approved by the Italian Consul in Glasgow.
